I’m pretty psyched to get any bottle of alcohol in the mail, but one that arrives in a recycled cardboard box (inner & outer liner made is 20-30% recycled / inner flute of corrugate is 100% recycled. ), in a recycled nesting box, with biodegradeable peanuts… well, words can not express my emotion! with these simple steps, 360 vodka has revolutionized the spirit industry. the saying, it’s all in the presentation, speaks volumes here. there really is no excuse why every spirit company cannot do the same thing. 360 vodka may not be organic, but it does use locally sourced grains, cutting down on the fossil fuel burned from transporting it. the bottle is 85% recycled (70% post consumer), whereas the average wine bottle is 34% recycled. personally, i had no idea that wine bottles were that ecologically minded. the labels on the bottle are chlorine free and 100% post consumer waste recycled). but let’s talk peanuts for a minute…; I HATE THEM! who doesn’t? but, if they must be used, at least biodegradable ones are tolerable. they dissolve in water, and your mouth – i tried them. the only downside is that they are made from corn or soy, which unless labeled organic, is made from GMO (genetically modified seed). which is bad, bad, bad – and kills monarch butterflies, silkworms, and has also been blamed for the bee crisis. some psychics predict that GMO potatoes will eventually be found to cause alzheimers. as for the conventional styrofoam peanuts, before throwing them in the garbage, or reusing them in your own packaging, try planting them! really. my mom uses them in the bottom of all her container gardens to take up space before putting the soil in. they provide excellent drainage, which is important for any potted plants so that they don’t rot. but i’m on a tangent, so back to 360. to top it off, they are participating in a program called “close the loop”, where you mail back your bottle cap and 360 will donate a dollar to environmentalist groups. that is, if you choose to relinquish that awesome bottle to the recycling bin. my bottle will be emptied pretty quickly, as 360 is pretty smooth going down… but they are not gettin’ my cap back!
