Sol Sunflower Beverage

Beverage alternatives are always a good eco-friendly way to change the pace from your regular drink. I had been very open to the idea of a sunflower beverage, I don’t prefer to drink soda so my only choices are tea or water. I was hoping that this sunflower beverage from Sol Sunflower would be as light and fresh as coconut water. Unfortunately this isn’t anything close to what I was hoping for, it was surprisingly worse.

The beverage had much more of a milky, creamy taste than I was expecting, making it less of a beverage to have by itself and more of a beverage which you could use as a base to combine more items with. I first tried the Sol Sunflower beverage alone without any additives and I found it too thick to enjoy even as full glass of. But as the informational pamphlets that came with the product stated it also seems that it would be better to be added to cereal/oatmeal or blended with ingredients to make a smoothie.

The flavor of the beverage was lacking, as it didn’t really have any flavor at all. More like hints of bitter and sour not very fresh at all. I have not tried other such combinations because I was too put off from the first tasting I had not enjoyed. But I do feel that it would be more beneficial to use it as a protein in a smoothie or breakfast meal. As a beverage alone, I’d say skip it; even if it is a great sounding eco-friendly way to avoid the mainstream beverage.

On a side note, I understand I was sent the beverage as part of a press kit with promotional packaging. But with the way it was packaged with an excessive outer box, besides the shipping box, I don’t find that to be very conscious of the earth. As a graphic designer I am all for gorgeous package design, but Sol please think of the earth first.
