Vegans rejoice, Turtle Mountain has created non-dairy frozen desserts that will help you escape the summer heat. The Peanut Butter Zig Zag is made from chocolate as a base and peanut butter and chocolate flakes are added into the mix. This creamy, sweet, smooth dessert is both tasty and heart healthy. It’s made from organic soymilk, organic cane juice and other sugars from yucca and potatoes. There is also organic tapioca syrup and organic brown rice syrup. High in sugar and fat, but compared to traditional ice cream, it’s much lower. I enjoyed the crunch from the chocolate flakes and the smoothness of the the peanut butter.
Gluten-Free Eaters can rejoice too! Turtle Mountain created a Cookie Dough Dairy Free dessert. Vanilla soy ice cream mixed with loads of cookie dough chunks and chocolate flakes make this delectable dessert suitable for food allergic people and health-conscience people too. There’s much less fat in the Cookie Dough compared to the Zig Zag with roughly the same amount of other nutritional items. When I first cracked the lid to the frozen dessert and dug the spoon in, I got the impression that it was different. The consistency was sort of smooth, but not so creamy. The first taste I was not so amazed compared to the Zig Zag, but the taste grew on me. I don’t want to say it’s an acquired taste, because it is not. It was very different. It taste sugarless and it sort of is. Traditional sugars for “ice creams” are not used, rather ingredients such as tapioca, potato flour, beet sugars, coconut oils, brown sugar, cane juice, chicory root and safflower oil. After the third taste, I truly started enjoying the taste. The first two spoonfuls were not disappointing, rather more of a curiosity of what I was actually eating. I ended up enjoying this dessert. I have more flavors to review and I can’t wait!
Turtle Mountain has small grassroots history. “Turtle Mountain LLC is a privately held natural foods company headquartered in Eugene, Oregon nestled in the lush Willamette Valley. The company began as a one-man operation by its founder and present CEO/President Mark Brawerman. As a consumer of healthy food alternatives Mark saw a growing need for products that tasted like their dairy counter parts but contained no dairy ingredients. Working on his own Mark began to develop a series of non-dairy recipes that ultimately served as a basis for the company?s focus on non-dairy frozen desserts. Through considerable trial and tribulation Turtle Mountain was born.” You can read more here.
Obviously, you need to know where to purchase the aforementioned delights, so go ahead and click right here to do so. It doesn’t list A&P, but I’ve seen Turtle Mountain in various A&Ps in North Jersey.
