High in the mountains of Heidmork, Iceland is where the Iceland Spring Water originates. It is filtered while traveling down the mountain through the lava rock and it ends up in the natural spring near the outskirts of Reykjavik in a protected nature reserve. The water is clean, clear and definitely refreshing. It is all natural and contains no nitrates, no sodium and pure. No water treatment is actually necessary. I am certainly enjoying drinking the Iceland Spring water. I’d suggest picking up a bottle if you see it around.
You can find it at the following locations. Whole Foods, Vitamin Shoppe, Vitamin World, Walgreens (as Iceland PURE), Cost Plus, Shaw?s, Central Markets, Giant. Also, mybrandsinc.com is an online vendor of the product as well.
I appreciate that no treatment is required for this water but question the purchase of bottled water that is packaged in a fossil fuel derived material and shipped thousands of kilometres to your local store.
Iceland Spring is bottled in Iceland at a bottling plant which uses electricity generated from geothermal energy and hydro-electric power. No fossil fuels are burned in the bottling of Iceland Spring.
However it is shipped to the US using vessels burning fossil fuels. We have calculated the carbon emissions used to ship our water to the US and then (on average) to our retailers in the US. Iceland Spring then plants trees in Iceland, to offset these carbon emissions, through Kolvidur, Iceland Carbon Neutral Fund.
We believe that the health aspects of drinking a water which has no contaminants and a high pH of 8.88 are worth making the trip especially since we are concerned with our environment and give back (as above.)
We hope this helps to allay some of your concerns. ICELAND SPRING
Can you explain why the ph paper will not show 8.88. it seems to be about a 6.0. I am using the pH strip that you can test your saliva. I tried small drop to big drops and I cant get the ph strip to get anywhere close to 7.0
i think iceland spring water is a hoax. i tested the ph of this water and it came out no better than new york city tap water. after adding ph test drops, the color was about yellow green, so near a ph 6 (same as nyc water). even the total dissolved solids measured (using tds meter) almost the same as nyc tap water (nyc tap = 40. iceland spring water = 43).
when i added 1 drop of alkalife alkaline booster drops, the color showed blue violet (about 8-9 ph). even the total dissolved solids number shot up as well.
no reason to pay high price for bottled tap water.
We have received a number of comments and questions from people using litmus paper (pH paper) to test the pH of Iceland Spring bottled water and other water. Because official test reports from NSF (nsf.org) show a pH level of 8.88 we decided to contact the producer of the litmus paper. We received the reply that litmus paper should only be used as an indicator of actual pH level.
NSF and in fact our own laboratory use very sophisticated pH meters to measure the pH level of the water.
The TDS in Iceland Spring is 48 mg/L. This is much lower than most other spring water. When comparing it with tap water we believe it is important to note that Iceland Spring is not treated while common tap water has been treated vigorously using in many cases reverse osmosis or other techniques that remove practically everything from the water. The final part of the treatment of tap water and other purified water is to add minerals and other chemicals like chlorine and calcium. None of this is done in the case of Iceland Spring as the natural spring water goes directly from the source and into the bottle.
We can only recommend that you take a bottle of Iceland Spring to an independent laboratory to have it tested. We are confident that the pH reading will be in the 8's.
Hello, I would like to try this water, but I would prefer it in a glass bottle is this possible? I live in the UK. Also if I came to Iceland is this water free for me to take from the land?
I too had checked the water with a saliva ph test strip. Knowing it isn’t highly accurate I also tried aquarium test drops. Those also read low (~7). Can you comment on testing Iceland Spring water with aquarium ph test drops/reagent?
I just purchased today and it tested at 4.5 ph. I have used these same strips to test Essentia, my tap water, and my RO water with sodium bicarb. I know my tests strips are accurate.

I went to Iceland, it's green. Greenland is icy.

Funny you should say that. I was curious and I tested the water's pH also. I didn't get above 7, either.
I agree with that fact. Thanks for pointing it out. Hope you enjoyed the site despite the costs.
