I made a good lunch today and in the process sampled a few new foods that I have to review. Eden makes soy milk, gluten-free pastas and more. I tried the vegetable-based pasta shells combined with whole wheat penne mixed with a vegetarian creamy vodka sauce topped with small peas and Lightlife’s chick’n strips. The chick’n strips are kind of flavorless in a good way. That’s ok with me. I like to flavor soy and tofu products with my own spices. The chick’n strips are not meant to me eaten alone. When i fried them up a little with some extra virgin olive oil, it made me think that stir frying them would also be a good idea. I added black pepper, garlic and an italian blend of spices which combined with the vodka sauce really brought it all together. This lunch was on the heavy side, but I had time to cook, so why not.
I really enjoyed the pasta shells. They were small and would be perfect with a cheddar cheese sauce. Overall, the food was very good. I’d highly recomend Lightlife’s products. I’ve had their sausage once before. It was smokey and spicy which is what, I assume, sausage is supposed to taste like. Their food is great for that extra protein kick without the fat. Last week I used the Smart Deli Roast Turkey to make a turkey and cheese wrap for dinner. It is smokey also and flavored well. So, go check out Eden and Lightlife. Both companies care about health, giving back to the world and the vegetarian/vegan lifestyle.
