I taste tested 6 varieties of the Eatpastry 100% vegan cookie dough: Chocolate Chunk, Peanut Butter, Chocoholic Chunk, Ginger, Oatmeal Raisin and Gluten Free Chocolate Chunk. This was my first experience with any type of vegan product and overall I was very happy with it.
The first thing I noticed was the cute packaging! There was a lot going on but it was all artistically done. And there were cute little sayings all over.
Next I tasted all the raw dough – my favorite part! – and I was pleasantly surprised.. all the flavors tasted like real cookie dough. Unfortunately I didn’t have any ice cream in the freezer at the time but I think the dough would make an awesome stir-in. I love that you can eat all you want with no worries (no raw egg!!) There was only one flavor that I really couldn’t handle – the Gluten Free Chocolate Chunk. It smelled different than the others and had a strange taste – I had to spit it out!! But again, I had never had anything gluten free before so maybe it’s an acquired taste!
Then I followed the quick and easy directions for baking. They cooked pretty evenly and smelled great! The overall taste was pretty good. These cookies definitely have more of a cake-like consistency and are very light and airy. They were however a little on the greasy side. Fresh out of the oven, they tasted ALMOST as good as the real thing. I brought them in to work the next day and everyone agreed they were pretty good for vegan cookies. The most popular flavors were definitely Peanut Butter, Chocolate Chunk and Oatmeal Raisin. Unfortunately no one liked the gluten free!!
Overall if you want or need to eat vegan these are a very good option. But they still can’t compete with the old fashioned butter and egg recipe!!
